The Flying Cloud Beach Hotel is a small, 5-room Bed and Breakfast located in the outskirts of the town of Xcalak, the oldest and southernmost on the Mexican Caribbean Coast, a few miles from the border with Belize; and a world away from urban hustle and bustle.
Xcalak is located within a strictly protected National Marine Park that was decreed in the year 2000 after its inhabitants lobbied for its creation to stave off mass-tourism development that had changed nearby towns for the worse forever by bringing in Cruise-Ship ports, large hotel developments with all that entails ecologically and socially.
Its early and far-reaching protection as a Marine Protected Area, along with its rich and unique ecosystem have made Xcalak a privileged location for those seeking to get away to a pristine, unspoilt, idyic Paradise far from the crowds in Cancún and the Riviera Maya.
The Flying Cloud is located in the same grounds as XTC, a sister company that runs a world-class PADI 5 Star SCUBA Diving Resort, as well as a Top-Notch Fly Fishing operation. XTC is unmatched when it comes to offering options to enjoy a day in the water in Xcalak also offering kayak and SUP rentals, as well as guided tours, snorkeling and birdwatching trips, to name a few.
Xcalak, The Flying Cloud and XTC are also the launching point to explore the mystical Banco Chinchorro Biosphere Reserve (aka The Chinchorro Banks) an elusive false-atoll (because it is not volcanic but rather made of coral) which is, at 1,500 sq/km (600 sq/mi) the largest reef in the Northern Hemisphere.
Banco Chinchorro has one the healthiest Coral Reefs in the Caribbean, is the final resting place of over 100 wrecks and is also home to the world´s largest populations of American Crocodiles and is home to a group of fishermen who still live and fish as they did 50-years ago. Going on an expedition there is like getting in a time-machine, a true paradise-on-earth.
When you stay at the Flying Cloud you can enjoy made-to-order meals, drinks (including beach service), as well as movies, barbeques and special events at our on-site http://www.coralbarandgrillxcalak.com/
